Remember Cindy? She's the Ugandan singer who was recently stranded in India with baby daughter (Amani) after a dodgy promoter paid her in fake Dollar notes for a show. Well, its pay back time as she has just released these photographs of the promoter - a fellow Ugandan who is believed to be studying in India. In a statement, Cindy said - “I finally found some pics of the promoter who paid me infake dollars. Enjoy. He’s called Kim Kibirige, lives Bangalore (India). I sincerely hope none of you goes thru this. It’s one thing to be cheated at home, it’s another to be cheated millions of miles away from home.” Apparently Cindy found out the money was counterfeit when she went shopping for baby diapers and Indian Sarees. The SPY says - You live and learn!

"Help me become Africa's youngest Music Mogul", D'Banj pleads

The Koko Master and Oliver Twist singer D'Banj says his dramatic departure from Mo'Hits in favour of an ambitious foray into the international music market is not for his personal aggrandisement but for the good of Africa as a whole and pleads for everyone's support. Harmlessly convincing as it sounds, he unwittingly contradicts himself in the space of two paragraphs in a report published today in the Nigerian Punch newspaper.

Oliver Twist gets more...

Cruel Summer - That's the title of the short film starring Kanye West and his new protege D'banj - was screened at the Cannes Film festival last night and it has sparked an outburst of mixed feelings amongst Nigerians. The funny thing is that not a single one of the armchair critics voicing their opinions of D'banj's involvement in the film has even seen it. One really nasty blog commentator suggested that D'banj could have only been good enough to play "an African hunter who becomes a musician". However, at a time when much of the news coming out of Nigeria is about the deadly escapades of Boko Haram and with Mavin Records safely bestriding their "domestic" comfort zone like a mighty colossus, the Koko Master does appear to be making the right noises in the right places on behalf of Nigeria's international image. This morning we saw video clips of D'banj mingling with British school children in Plumstead, South London and the SPY could immediately relate with it because the St Georges Church of England School in Camberwell near our base also in South London play Oliver Twist as their play time anthem every day and by kokolets does it get the kids (and yours truly) going! Well, lets just say, Oliver Twist goes to school.
