"Help me become Africa's youngest Music Mogul", D'Banj pleads

The Koko Master and Oliver Twist singer D'Banj says his dramatic departure from Mo'Hits in favour of an ambitious foray into the international music market is not for his personal aggrandisement but for the good of Africa as a whole and pleads for everyone's support. Harmlessly convincing as it sounds, he unwittingly contradicts himself in the space of two paragraphs in a report published today in the Nigerian Punch newspaper.

Following his appointment as CEO of Def Jam Africa, D'Banj told the paper - "When I told a group of journalists in Nigeria after winning the MTV Europe Music Awards (Best African Act) in Munich in 2007 that my ambition was to open up the young and vibrant African music scene to the rest of the world and become the youngest African music mogul, this was what I had in mind". He is next quoted as saying - "This is the time for people, especially fellow Nigerians to give me their support. I need every support I can get and I'm open to suggestions. Let it be known that this is not about D'Banj but letting the rest of the world know that entertainment is Africa" The SPY is baffled, hello, which one is it exactly? Is it about lifting struggling artists  from the dusty streets of Ebute Metta and Kumasi or acquiring more Aston Martins? The sum total of the mixed signals we're getting somewhat dilutes any enthusiasm his supporters may have for his laudable master plan which includes giving African acts a chance at the coveted Grammys. Hear him - "No more excuses of not getting recognition from the Grammy Awards organisers. If there's Grammy Latin surely, there will be Grammy Africa, That's our goal". The SPY says - tread with caution because you can fool some of the people some of the time but you can't fool all the people all of the time.
