SCANDAL! TVC channel shut down over unpaid royalties

Television and radio operators in Nigeria are on high alert as the independent channel TVC was shut down a few hours ago. Reports just reaching the SPY say Television Continental has had its equipment confiscated by court order for its failure to pay artists' royalties on the materials its been airing to the tune of hundreds of millions of Naira.

Sources say the Musical Copyright Society of Nigeria obtained an injunction that empowered baillifs and police officers to cart away the channel's tools. The reason the Nigerian entertainment industry is Africa's biggest only on paper is the endemic problem of piracy and non-compliance with copyright laws so TVC's disgrace is only the tip of the iceberg, if the MCSN decides to go after other broadcasters with the same ferociousness then there'll be practically none left.... Any that eventually remain will have to start playing by the rules so artists rejoice, better days are coming.

SA soap Isidingo set on fire

If you watch the South African-backed Nigerian hit soap Tinsel, you probably also watch Jacob's Cross and if you do then chances are you also watch Isidingo a local prime time must watch on SA's soapy menu. Well, at the time of this report, the set of Isidingo was ablaze - for real!

The SPY has just gathered that Henley Studios where Isidingo is filmed caught fire overnight. Reports say the blaze started in studio six at around 8pm and fire fighters were unable to bring it under control. A spokesperson for the producers SABC said the fire may have originated in the Isidingo production studios causing significant damage. There have been no reports of injuries and we understand that the incident will not affect normal programming.

The Los Angeles home  of G.O.O.D. Music boss and D'banj's new best friend Kanye West has turned into a crime scene following a burglary this morning. According to TMZ the LAPD sealed off the building after someone inside alerted them of the intruders who reportedly dropped some of their loot as they fled. At the time of this report, West was still on tour in the UK. First film starring Annie Idibia is now out

The first film featuring Annie Macauley since her recent marriage to superstar 2Face Idibia has just been released and to the surprise of many feminists, the Nollywood star's credit bears her new married name Annie Idibia. The film titled The Kingdom was directed and produced by Eucharia Anunobi and stars such big names as Van Vicker and Tana Adelana as well as Anunobi herself.
It is common practice for high-flying female professionals especially celebrities to either maintain their maiden names or hyphenate them to their husband's but Annie once again seems to have gone the extra mile to demonstrate how deep her love is for the man who strung her along for nearly thirteen years before popping the  question. The SPY can further reveal that contrary to widespread belief, the couple have not held any traditional marriage rites besides the legal registry ceremony. Mrs Idibia who says she's been feeling great and totally blessed since her marriage told a reporter recently - "The traditional and white would follow later. My husband and I  are planning that. We will let you know". The SPY says - What's taking you so long? Its not as if Two Baba's not up to the task of staging a State Wedding. Lol. We can't wait.
