EBISAN HITS THE MARK WITH JOWO

By MICHELLE EBIAHA Rising star Ebisan saw her career take a giant leap in 2012. She started the year strong with Love Story, her official debut single, creeping up the charts after making it on to the Top 50 for 2011 #BloggersEdition list and then releasing a very well received video in which she showcased her acting skills along side popular Nollywood actor, Joseph Benjamin.  She captivated us with her stirring

performance, a good storyline and beautiful scenes.
Her second single Jowo was released in June and its brilliant video came shortly after. With them she shows off her wide vocal range and the fun, quirky side to her music and personality.  The video was shot by AK One in South Africa with her ONE Management team. It was ‘hard work but exciting, a fun learning experience’ she recalls. She also enjoyed meeting and working with South African artist and producers. Clearly at home in front of the camera, she demonstrates her versatility - as a talented singer, strong songwriter and budding actress. The song received major radio airplay and the video made BellaNaija's BN Music Friday Top 5: Videos of the Moment in July.

Her fanbase exploded in 2012 after the Jowo video hit the airwaves with fans on Twitter and Facebook praising its originality. Ebisan also gives credit to radio stations and OAPs who supported her more alternative style and didn’t try to pigeonhole her and instead let the music speak for itself. Fans have been encouraging, often praising her individuality and encouraging her to stay true to herself and her soulful approach to music be it pop, jazz or dance infused, for which she is very grateful.

2012 was certainly a very busy year for Ebisan. In addition to performing and recording she was featured in a video for Suru, the song she co-wrote and recorded for the Tango With Me award nominated soundtrack. Late 2012 saw the international release of Tango With Me, the soundtrack for which was her first major project on returning to Nigeria, for which she co-wrote and recorded Suru, a firm favourite with her fans, and the title track Dance With Me. Fans also saw and learned more about her in Genevieve and TW Magazine interviews as well as on numerous popular blog features.

She ended the year with a bang taking home the NMVA for Best Alternative
Video for Jowo, topping a category that had Bez and Lagbaja in contention!
She also released her third single Time Of Our Lives, an upbeat dance influenced track featuring ChiDynma, which is quickly becoming a favourite with fans, OAPs and DJs. 2013 is looking to be an even bigger and better year for Ebisan with a video for Time Of Our Lives, hot collaborations and several performances to look forward to.

Ebisan is currently working on her debut album and collaborations with both local and international artistes. So far she has succeeded in winning over critics with her great gift. Some have compared her to Asa, Jill Scott, Adele and many other similarly talented international artists.  She is definitely one to watch in 2013! *The Spy ALWAYS finds out and ALWAYS tells it like it is.
