Shocking! Top Nollywood star owes 1 year's house rent

Brackcet and co celebrate
The Spy has just completed its Tweet patrol of the evening and we have the most astonishing report to make. First, veteran society chic and blogger Linda Ikeji reports that Vast and Smash better known as Bracket - the Nigerian duo famous for their hit single Yori Yori have just added three top-of-the-range 4x4 wheels to their fleet of rides. Two Range Rover Sport and one Mercedes G series to the tune of N25m.

Then we hit MJ magazine only to have the smile wiped off our face as we found that A-list Nollywood actor cum producer Fred Amata has been dragged to court over unpaid rent arrears for a four-bedroom bungalow to the tune of N600,000 for the period of 2009-2010. What an irony? Who would have thought this dude would even be a tenant talk less of a bad one at that? Even though we agree with a commentator on Ikeji's blog who noted that automobiles are not assets we still can't get our head around the fact that a top Nollywood star cannot afford to own his home outright and to rub insult to injury allow himself to bed taken to court for oweing rent. Perhaps there are mitigating factors or underlying issues that led to this ugly development but he should have been well advised to settle amicably for the sake of his image. This may well be an example of penny wise pound foolish. In any case, a Suru Lere magistrate has ordered him to cough up the cash within fourteen days.
Fred Amata: Suffering and smiling?
