With all the atrocities to its credit, it would have been surprising if the insurgent Muslim jihadists Boko Haram did not inspire a film's storyline but Ghanaian director Pascal Amanfo's recently released movie "Boko Haram" starring Majid Michel and featuring Nigerian and Ghanaian actors has encountered a major hurdle as the extensive Silver Bird Cinema chain has banned it both in Ghana and Nigeria.
In a chat with Nigeriafilms.com Amanfo reveals that, he sent the movie to Silverbird-Nigeria for it to be reviewed, but it was rejected. Whiles in Nigeria, he was also told that Silverbird-Ghana has also rejected the movie, because Silverbird-Nigeria instructed them not to show it.
When Nigeriafilms.com representative In Ghana contacted Silverbird-Ghana for an explanation, Justice Grant, the cinema manager said the movie was not up to the standard the Silverbird required.
“We had problems with the picture quality, and morally we thought it`s not the right time to show the movie because of what is currently happening in Nigeria. Aside that, it is a management decision not to show it for now although our aim is to help promote local movies. This particular movie has to stay aside for the time being,” he explained.
