Nigerian Idol: "We will win" - Mercy Chinwo

As season two of Nigerian Idol reaches its nail biting climax this week, Mercy Chinwo - the contestant with superstar swagger from PHC and the African Celebrity Spy's favourite candidate says she'll clinch the crown. On Saturday 31 March she wrote on her Facebook wall - "Battle of the sexes... But papa God pass them." Later she wrote - "Thank you, through God and your support, I'm in the last two, I'm grateful. Its the finals, we will win".
From P-Squared's Chop My Money to Amerie's One Thing  week after week, this petite beauty who carries far more than her body's weight in vocal power has blown away judges and fans alike.
After being mesmerized by Mercy's compelling rendition of Bobby Benson's Taxi Driver midway through the competition, the Chocolate City star M.I who was guest judge on the night vowed to sign her on the label should she fail to win the show - a show that has held the entire continent of Africa we dare say and us Blacks in the diaspora in bated breath.
However, no one's deaf to the talent of Mercy's final opponent to victory, yes, the charismatic Joe Blue's alright and he definitely has a bright future ahead but our girl's too much. Mercy's simply in a class of her own, a rare gem to come out of Nigeria.
If you've never watched her perform, please don't take our word for it, Femi Kuti's a better authority. This guy, like his late father is unforgiving when it comes to assessing musical notes and by the time Mercy had dropped Fela's Zombie tribute the other week he scored her A+++ whilst Stephen Onochie and Joe Blue survived the wrath of his judgement by the skin of their teeth. That's how hot Mercy is!
Well, we don't know about you but that was the first time ever that we've heard a female (publicly) perform a Fela song and she completely took ownership of it.
Where some of her early rivals in the competition were mediocre and karaoke-ish, Mercy instantly imposed herself as a born pro with unbelievable stagewomanship! Its now crunch time and even the prayerful star admits that its now a battle of the sexes. When its all over Mercy won't have to "chop" any man's money because she'll have bags of her own.
